Pond View Home: Exterior

Home / / Pond View Home: Exterior

Our clients’ goals were to renovate their pond house and truly incorporate the forest and surrounding areas with the living space of this year-round home. Inspired by the clients South Pacific connections we designed huge, open living spaces with teak and sustainable hardwoods to create the ambiance of a South Pacific lanai. Nevertheless we wanted to keep the outside looking like it belonged on a Rhode Island pond and utilized the materials, lines and gables of a traditional, pond front cottage.

Many windows in the lanai and bedrooms open onto the expansive pond views and the wide decks off of both floors are inviting places to sit and enjoy the pond. The screened porch and adjoining patio with a fireplace add to greater enjoyment as the evening approaches.

The large lanai/gathering space has a lofty, multilevel ceiling supported by stenciled teak columns. Under the windows custom benches create space to sit and enjoy the lake views. The benches extend to the stone benches of the huge, stone fireplace in its own cozy nook off the lanai.

The contractors united many architectural antiques, custom cabinets and beautiful trim into the home giving it a unique character. The blue cabinets in the kitchen alcove pick up the blue exterior trim and roof inspired by the color of the pond on a beautiful, summer day.
