Salt Pond View: Kitchen

Home / / Salt Pond View: Kitchen

This family with teenage children wanted to move to their summer home full-time and needed to entirely update the house. We wanted them to be able to take advantage of the beautiful views they had of a salt pond. The house is on a hill just outside of the flood zone, so we were able to create living space on all 3 floors.

The original single-story home with a walk out basement was in poor repair, so it made sense to take it down to the first floor level and build a new home characteristic of the Modern Shingle.  read more below

We added a second floor and configured the layout to work with year-round living.

We created overhangs with pointed and curved gables, and curved balconies and decks, with supporting columns and brackets to make a truly distinctive home, yet we retained the original rectangular footprint.

French doors and windows with transoms above opening from the long gathering space onto the wide front deck provide openness and light, as well as a view of the salt pond from the kitchen, dining room and living room.

All the bedrooms on the second floor have large windows and doors also opening onto the view. The Master bedroom has a curved dormer in the cathedral ceiling.

On the side of the house is a screened porch with a stone fireplace which creates and outdoor space that can be enjoyed well into the fall.
