This modern cottage owned by a young couple with 2 small children has views of the water in two opposite directions. A classic gambrel roofed cottage in the Pier District came into the loving hands of a creative woman from New York City who wanted to use it as a 3 season escape and keep her construction expenses low in the process. The interior walls were removed to create large Gathering Spaces. Upstairs a new Master Bedroom Suite and cozy guest rooms under the eaves facilitate entertaining at the beach.

A wrap-around screened porch was created facing the garden next to a new large stone patio. Each has spaces large enough for sitting and enjoying friends into the evening.
Wood floors were refinished, windows added or enlarged and trim appropriate to the house was replaced. A structurally unsound later addition was removed, creating views from both sides of the house. A welcoming front entry porch was added.
The kitchen was replaced with all new appliances and cabinets, and the island was extended the width of the house. A breakfast nook has a round table embraced by a curved built-in bench under the bright windows of the bay window into which it is nestled.
The central stairs were relocated and updated to demarcate the different areas of the gathering space yet keep the floor plan open. See-through wire railings on the stairs and bead board wainscoting are part of the beach house theme of this newly renovated home for entertaining friends.
