This home is a totally renovated concrete block building (but you’d never know it!). It was sitting barely a foot above sea level on a peninsula of a salt pond. Because it sat in a flood zone, they could not perform a tear down and rebuild without building a new house above the flood waters on piers. Instead, we worked with the existing house and enclosed a porch to create a larger living space.

We opened up the walls on the first floor so the rooms flow one into another. This gave them a light-filled gathering space with gorgeous views over the water.
We took advantage of the space over the existing porch to make balconies for the renovated bedrooms upstairs. A beautiful new central staircase has open railings on both sides that divide the Living and Dining Rooms, without sacrificing the open concept.
With new shingles covering the concrete block walls and wide trim and classic porch details, this home appears to be a new Modern Shingle Style home.
