A farmhouse in Rumford in need of love was completely gutted, renovated and renewed with modern additions to honor the original Victorian exterior, yet respond to the owners’ wishes for a home that matched their contemporary lifestyle.
A spacious living room on the first floor, and an owner’s suite on the second floor of the addition doubled the size of the house. inviting farmers porch brought the needed space. The existing house had interior walls removed to create flow between the kitchen through the dining room to the gathering space. Dormer additions kept the original roof line while making comfortable bedrooms and baths for guests. The ornate details of the moldings and railings, brackets and trim were replicated and repeated throughout so that the home feels historic yet is completely modern in its living spaces.
A new separate garage building with simpler details to give the feeling of a carriage barn was tucked behind the trees, leaving a large lawn for parties.
