As Gail and her clients worked together on ideas for their new cottage on a small triangular shape property, they decided to create a house with an octagonal tower to fit in where the two streets come together. This inspired creating the Light House Cottage inspired by a lighthouse keepers cottage and the nearby Point Judith Lighthouse.
To optimize the gorgeous views of Block Island Sound, the owners requested an “upside down house”, with bedrooms on the bottom floor and the major living space on the second floor. The top floor is an open floor plan with the gathering space and kitchen, and a cozy octagonal library with a light filled cupola above. A narrow balcony opens off the living space and the wall to wall windows overlooking the Sound to fully enjoy its spectacular views.
The three bedrooms located on the first floor. The sitting room, to double as a guest room, is located in the octagonal lower floor of the “lighthouse”. The central bunk room has four full sized bunks, with whimsical lighthouse cutouts on the rails. The Owners Bedroom is generously sized and has corner window views of the ocean.
